Going Green Is Good For Business Too
From Whole Foods Market, home owner associations to college campuses, businesses, government and educational facilities are increasingly turning to solar technology as a way to reduce energy costs. Companies (particularly those with facilities in the states with Renewable Portfolio Standards, and therefore deriving significant state rebates) are increasingly aware that solar also generates positive public relations and marketing buzz with today’s discriminating purchasers.
The trend toward businesses deploying renewable energy technologies promises to continue. Concerns over global warming and greenhouse gases have reached an all-time high. There is even discussion that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating requiring pubic companies to disclose their
carbon dioxide. Even companies that were known for polluting
in the 70’s, like GE, have now pledged to roll back their greenhouse gas emissions.
With the new Florida Energy Bill, Florida commercial businesses, government, education and not-for-profit organizations have incentive to participate in the new national energy-saving consciousness. The bill provides substantial benefits for these uses
with rebates up to $100,000 (based on $4/kw) for solar PV and up to $5000 (based on $15/btu) for solar water heating.
Better yet, the 2005 Federal Energy Act offers commercial businesses a 30% tax incentive with no cap for both solar photovoltaic and solar thermal technologies.
